چکیده

The role of the autonomic nerve on the gastric motility of the domestic fowl has been investigated by Nolf (1), Ihnen (2) and Hassan (3). Nolf has reported that both excitatory and inhibitory fibres are included in the vagus and also in the sympathetic nerve to the proventriculus and gizzard. However, there is little detailed study on the mechanism which causes excitatory and inhibitory responses of the fowl's stomach to stimulation of these nerves. In mammalians, the inhibitory response of the stomach caused by vagal stimulation was distinguished from that caused by sympathetic stimulation and was attributed to a non-adrenergic inhibitory nerve mechanism (4-8). It was also reported that the excita tory cholinergic fibres in addition to the inhibitory adrenergic one are contained in the sympathetic nerve to the stomach (9-11). Recent electrophysiological studies have shown that the smooth muscle cells of the avian gizzard may be affected by excitatory cholinergic nerve fibres and by non-adrenergic inhibitory nerve fibres (12, 13). The present experiment is concerned with the nature of the excitatory and inhibitory responses to stimulation of the vagus and the sympathetic nerves to the crop, proventriculus and gizzard in the domestic fowl. The main purpose of this work is to examine whether the relaxation of the stomach caused by stimulation of these nerves is adrenergic in origin or not.

Esophagotomy in a domestic fowl: a rare case report

Background: Foreign body in esophagus in birds is rarely reported in literature. Most common site of foreign body in birds is proventriculus and ventriculus. The purpose of this study is to discuss the diagnosis of a large sharp foreign body in the distal third of the neck by plain radiography and its retrieval through esophagotomy and subsequent survival of the fowl. C...

A neural mass model of CA1-CA3 neural network and studying sharp wave ripples

We spend one third of our life in sleep. The interesting point about the sleep is that the neurons are not quiescent during sleeping and they show synchronous oscillations at different regions. Especially sharp wave ripples are observed in the hippocampus. Here, we propose a simple phenomenological neural mass model for the CA1-CA3 network of the hippocampus considering the spike frequency adap...

Effect of interaction between acute administration of morphine and cannabinoid compounds on spontaneous excitatory and inhibitory postsynaptic currents of magnocellular neurons of supraoptic nucleus

Objective(s): Opioids and cannabinoids are two important compounds that have been shown to influence the activity of magnocellular neurons (MCNs) of supraoptic nucleus (SON). The interaction between opioidergic and cannabinoidergic systems in various structures of the brain and spinal cord is now well established, but not in the MCNs of SON. Materials and methods: In this study, whole cell pat...

Evaluation of Efficacy of Razi Fowl Pox Vaccine in Comparison of Commercial Fowl Pox Vaccine in SPF Chickens by Challenge Test

Abstract Fowl pox vaccine is produced in the Razi Institute for almost half a century and has a favorable and productive yield in poultry flocks and has provided complete satisfaction to the poultry breeder. In terms of comparing the efficacy of this vaccine with imported vaccines, the following research was conducted. In this study, based on the latest protocols of European Pharmacopeia and O...

Effect of phasic electrical locus coeruleus stimulation on inhibitory and excitatory receptive fields of layer V barrel cortex neurons in male rat

Introduction: It is believed that Locus Coeruleus (LC) influences the sensory information processing. However, its role in cortical surround inhibitory mechanism is not understood. In this experiment, using controlled mechanical displacement of whiskers we investigated the effect of phasic electrical stimulation of LC on response of layer V barrel cortical neurons in anesthetized rat. Methods: ...
